Miriam Shenitzer and Michael Zank – Artists in Residence

Textiles, Multimedia, Religious Research and Writing

Residency Dates: April 2024

Studio H Canada is thrilled to welcome multimedia and textile artist Miriam Shenitzer and her partner Michael Zank, Professor of Religion, Jewish Studies and Medieval Studies from Boston, MA USA.

Miriam Shenitzer’s work is about drawing and connecting. Miriam draws the world around her as a way of seeing that world more clearly. She connects with others as she draws them and draws with them. Most recently, Miriam has become involved in the creation of urban pollinator gardens as a way to support insects, people and plants. She has spent the last four months travelling in India, where she stayed and  worked at artists’ residencies, creating fabric gateways to bring viewers’ attention to the plants and trees around them.  At Studio H, Miriam has been continuing this project, using the plants and trees native to the area and installing her work on the local trail surrounding the property.

At Studio-H, he has worked on a paper on “idolatry.” When not preoccupied with theological ideas, Michael plays clarinet. He enjoys hiking the nearby woods and exploring the BC coast.
