Leah Morgan – Artist in Residence

Residency Dates: September 11-24, 2022

Studio H Canada is thrilled to welcome Leah Morgan, an emerging, multidisciplinary visual artist from Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. Being connected from the West to the East Coast, Leah developed a love for the variety of different environments in Canada. She also sees the negative impact humanity has on nature and our positive connected to nature. This fascination has inspired Leah to become an environmental advocate, collector, and artist who explores mixed media and expand on her painting and printmaking practice.

Leah will open the Studio doors to the public on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 2:00-4:00pm. She will share her work and talk about themes developed during the residency. Please follow the event on Facebook and let us know you will be attending!

During my residency I will be continuing my ongoing series studying the connection between humanity and nature. Humanity has an inherent participation in nature. I create works that are a call to action that take form through the use of collected recycled, repurposed, and reusable materials, as well as non-toxic substances made by hand where I can. I reflect on ways to further my practice to be progressively better for the environment. To use art in this way allows me to ignite my practice with my ideals in order to represent my own interpretation of the world around me, and currently Vancouver Island.

About the Artist

Leah has achieved awards, scholarships, and completed a certificate of art and design from Keyano College in Fort MacMurray. This year, Leah graduated from York University (Downsview, Ontario) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in visual arts and art history. During her time there and after, she has helped curate exhibitions and was featured in exhibitions at the Special Projects Gallery and Propeller Gallery as well as others.
