Shirry Insole, Artist in Residence, Canada

Multimedia, Research

Residency Dates: July 2026

Studio H Canada is thrilled to welcome Shirry Insole, an emerging, multimedia visual artist from Kelowna, BC, Canada.

During this residency, I aim to further develop my ongoing project, Walking as Methodology for World-Making: Poetic Encounter. Through daily walking, observation, and material experimentation, I will investigate how repeated encounters with a place generate correspondence between body, material, and environment. Building on my research into material and perceptual correspondence, I hope to deepen my understanding of attentiveness, memory, and embodied experience, exploring how walking can become an epistemic practice through which knowledge and meaning emerge. The residency offers an invaluable opportunity to immerse myself in new landscape and to allow the site, its rhythms, and its materials to actively shape the development of the work.

About the Artist

Shirry Insole is a visual artist based in Kelowna, British Columbia. Working across drawing, printmaking, natural pigments, text, sound, and installation, her practice explores the relationships between memory, perception, materiality, and place. Through site-responsive and process-led approaches, she investigates how embodied encounters with materials and environments can generate open-ended experiences. Her work invites viewers to slow down, attend to subtle traces, and reflect on the dynamic interplay between presence and absence, and personal and collective memory.
