Multimedia residency and featured artist talk
Residency Dates: April 6- May 3, 2025
Studio H Canada is thrilled to welcome Hailey Kennedy an archaeologist and multimedia artist focusing on drawing from Edmonton, Alberta for the month of April.
Hailey will also present an artist talk entitled Art, Archaeology and Community at the Metchosin Community House and online via Webex on Saturday, April 26th at 2pm (PDT). Please RSVP if you are interested in attending. The talk will be available virtually and recorded for future viewing.
Hailey will also join a group of former SHC artists at Dinosaur Provincial Park, a major UNESCO World Heritage site this summer to explore this exceptional badland landscape.
My work explores the use of vibrant color to evoke connections to natural environments, cultures, and experiences. During this residency, I aim to integrate natural pigments into my work, creating pieces that are not only depictions of the environment, but tangible embodiments of it.
About the Artist
Hailey Kennedy is a fine artist and archaeologist based in Edmonton, Alberta. Working primarily in oil and gouache, she explores color to depict various landscapes and natural environments. In addition to her personal work, she collaborates with researchers and academics to illustrate artifacts, public outreach materials, and archaeological reconstructions.
Creating art since 2016, Hailey began integrating art within archaeology during her Bachelor of Arts in Honours Anthropology from MacEwan University, graduating in 2021. Publishing her research on drawing as an educational tool, she has since contributed illustrations for articles in North American Archaeologist and Journal of Archaeological Science. She has also worked on international collaborative projects with researchers and Indigenous communities in Arctic Siberia. Currently, Hailey is pursuing a Masters of Archaeology at the University of Saskatchewan, creating illustrations to depict an archaeological site in Canadian Prairies for local Indigenous communities.
