Studio H Canada offers international artist residencies located on the unceded territory of the Sc’ianew First Nations also known as Metchosin, BC, just 30 minutes by car from the port of Victoria, BC Canada. This gorgeous rural seaside and mountain location has miles of walking trails, lakes, mountains, sheep farms, beaches and more. From our location, the views of Mt. Baker, Esquimalt Lagoon and the city of Victoria are breathtaking. For any artist, working in any media it is sure to inspire.
About the Studio
The studio is located in a separate building from the suites overlooking the property’s garden. The main studio space is approximately 1,000 square feet and has high ceilings and large walls, and is perfect for multimedia projects including painting, sculpture, installation, and sound. The front area outside the studio is a flat concrete pad for outdoor creating and construction, sanding or other similar activities during good weather. Water is currently available from an outside tap, but a new sink and wet area will be installed at some point. High speed internet is in the studio and both suites. The studio gets transformed and reconfigured in numerous ways. There is lots of room for producing, exhibiting and collaborating!
Additionally, there is a large textile and tapestry area including a LeClerc loom, drum carder, sewing machines, and yarn baller — perfect for artists looking to work on textile projects including weaving, felt-making, and sewing. Local wools are available for artists to use for a small additional fee — contact us for more information.
Photographers, media artists, installation and conceptual work, can all be undertaken here. Writers, poets, academics and researchers are welcome. If we do not have something, we can help to find it.

Amenities: There is access to a shared on-site laundry, hot tub, and infrared sauna — because we know when you are tired after a long day slogging it out in the studio you need a little relaxation! Both suites also have access to the two decks overlooking the property — one attached to the View Suite and the other attached to the Studio — perfect for relaxing, yoga, or exercise!
Meals: The suite contains a small fridge for breakfast and day-to-day supplies plus a microwave and coffee/tea maker. You will also have daytime access to a large shared kitchen for lunch and dinner (either shared with the View Suite or the main house upstairs depending on availability), as well as an outdoor barbecue, pizza oven, large fridge/freezer in the studio, and fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs from our garden (availability dependent on the season and crop yield).

The View Suite is a good option for artists interested in socializing and having direct access to kitchen and common areas during the residence.

Registration and Fees
Registration
Once you complete the Google intake form we will arrange an online meeting via Google Meet or What’s App to find out more about your residency goals, timing, and interests to make sure this is the right residency for you.
Once it is determined this is the right fit and the plan is established, Studio H Canada will draft an artist agreement for the term of the residency outlining your responsibilities and how we can support you (in-kind financial support, achieving residency goals etc.), and finalize dates and payments. You will also receive an official offer/acceptance letter that can be used for funding applications or sponsors. SHC must receive confirmation from artists that they will accept the offer, sign off on the residency agreement, and submit their deposit within 4 working days.
