Maggie Carlson – Artist in Residence, USA

Textiles | Mixed Media | Experimental Art

Residency Dates: October 11 – November 7, 2026

Studio H Canada welcomes Maggie Carlson, a textile and mixed-media artist whose practice is informed by what she finds in nature and the re-usable world. Her interest in overlooked details and sensory experiences informs an approach to making that leaves room for discovery.

While at Studio H, Maggie is processing raw wools from a local Icelandic sheep farm to include in her work developed during the residency.

Artist Statement

I am a textile artist who lets the materials I find guide and inspire the outcome. I forage antique shops, yard sales, forests, and shorelines for unexpected or discarded objects. I bring together organic and inorganic materials through collage, natural dyes, and experimentation.

I am inspired by the smaller, more overlooked details of nature—from the sound of waves hitting rocks to the sparkle of a water droplet on a spider web. My work aims to create an ethereal world and magnify the miniature details of nature to explore what might exist beneath the threshold of ordinary perception.
